They struck quickly and silently. The first thing House Republicans did after the holiday was move to kill future ethics investigations. It was a transparent attempt to protect themselves against criticism.

And then–OMG–the Tweeter-in-Chief did the right thing! He called them out on it in a mid-day tweet, upbraiding them for such petty activity when there were much more important things they should be doing.

So they reversed themselves  http://nyti.ms/2j0ErNH, after poor old Paul Ryan had opposed the measure and then supported it. Then he had to oppose it again.

It’s going to be a rough year for the Speaker of the House.
